Music video ideas

Idea one
My first idea is to have a girl dump a guy but not tell him why. She leaves and he follows her outside asking why when she gets her bag stolen so the guy, seeing this as a chance tio impress her, chases the guy over garden fences whilst encountering situations that distract him until he remembers what he's doing and continues his chase until he realises his girlfriend was cheating so he gets with a girl in the garden he's in at the time.
Idea two
My second idea is to have a guy riding his bike down an empty road whilst encountering problems as he rides that hinder him or 'pull him down' as the song states, whilst over coming each problem or 'the fact that you still want me around' until the ending as he rides downhill with the lyrics 'it's all downhill from here' playing until the end.

Idea three

My final idea is to have a person walking in one direction whilst events occur around him with every person he sees singing parts of the song as he has his ipod in and that's all her can hear.

And it’s all downhill from here
And it’s all downhill from here

Your good intentions slowly turn to bitterness

And I can tell you’re going through the motions
I figured you were acting out your part
Once again, we’re playing off emotion

And it’s all downhill from here
And it’s all downhill from here

Similar Music Videos Analysis

I am doing a music video for the song “All Downhill From Here” by New Found Glory. The genre of this band is Pop Punk, so I am going to look at some other Pop Punk bands Music Videos. These are Blink 182's "All the Small Things" and Bowling for Soup's "1985".

In both videos humour is used with the lyrics playing in the background whilst being loosely related to what is being portrayed in the video, this appears to be quite a popular tech

nique to be used by in pop punk videos, another popular feature is to have the band performing whilst the events of the video are unfolding around them. When the performances are used in the music videos they tend to focus on the Vocalist but are also quite often long shots of the full band are used as there isn't

really a "face of the band" it's all about everyone being just as important. On the music video for “All the Small Things” we see very little performance by the band as it instead focuses on the humorous locations and settings which is another typical convention of the pop punk Genre.

In the video for “1985” we see use of Illustrative visuals with relevance of narrative to the lyrics in that the full video is essentially an homage to music videos from 1985 such as Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" in which the videos is recreated with members of Bowling for Soup instead. This is similar as "All the Small Things" but they make fun of more recent typical boy band videos such as when a guy and a girl having a romantic moment together near the sea it is two guys instead.

Both videos contain multiple intertextual references to other music videos as they both are basically parodies of music videos with Bowling for Soup's referencing 80's music videos whereas Blink 182 references more recent videos.

CD Cover Analysis

To the left is the cover for the album ‘Sticks and Stones’ by the band New Found Glory. The image shows two kids fighting with one wearing a top which appears to have 'stone' written on it referring back to the title of the album. The image of two kids fighting relates to the saying 'sticks and stones may break my bones' with the next part of the saying 'but words will never hurt me' which could refer to this being a music c.d. therefore completing the saying. Also the name of the band is written using an old print gun giving the album a slight retro feel.

To the left is the cd cover for the self-titled album of The All American Rejects, the album has no name and therefore there is no sense of album name writing on the cover. The name of the band is in the top left corner of the album and is written in a very basic font to not draw more attention than is necessary to it. There is a picture of an old go kart on the cover taking up the higher percentage of the album cover giving this album a simple, retro feel as-well.

To the left is the album cover for Taking Back Sunday's debut album ‘Tell all your Friends’, once again their is a simple feel to the cover as it is just a basic image of a road with another road above and a patch of grass to the right. The band name and other information is written in block capitals, once again drawing no more attention than necessary to it.
